Friday, 1th of April 2011: Hay - Ivanhoe (172km)

What a day... a tougher one than yesterday!

As I needed to have a whole day of rest for my muscles, I wished to have it in a "town" or so. The best solution seemed to be Ivanhoe, meaning a ride of over 170km with the full load on the bike.
But as the day before the wind was blowing from south to north, I was quite confident to do it.
Well, when I stood up 1 hour earlier as the day before (7h45) and still my 2 hours for breakfast, packing and setting up everything on the bike.
Soon, I was missing something: yesterday's wind was either weak and or blowing from western instead of from the south.
But I was thinking positively: you can do it!
The landscape changed from green to yellow and back to green. Trees followed by grasses, bushes and trees again. Wet lands, dry lands. And the wind still blowing from the side.
After 48km, I went at Booligal for a little rest and lunch. Today I had learned: not to long, you don't want to loose to much time. Lidia, the restaurant's holder, gave me the tip to ask Mike in Ivanhoe about a shower and a place to sleep... first I needed to arrive there: still about 130km missing.
Again a lot's of bird, a few Emus and falcons, a lot of cows and three Kangaroo. Quite difficult to take a picture for the most of them: they are soo fast!
My bottom and the hand were starting to hurt a little bit... and after 150km, I had to put some "energy in the oven": sweet butter biscuit!
By 19h30, I finally arrived in Ivanhoe, were Mike kindly show me were I could put the tent and have a shower. They already had started the BBQ and having some saussages on it.
When I came back, I could also grabe some for 2$ each, fair price.
During the evening, I had a little chat with Jim, while the others were having a little lottery to help the local golf club.
After a glas of wine, I needed to go to sleep, I was drained.

Cheers,
Georges

Thanks a lot, Peter!
Don't worry, I won't make all days like that, else I will ruin everyone, starting by myself (my health). Over 5200 kcal in one day is not good on the long term for a beginner like me.
And today's day-off was very good for body and soul.
Tomorrow, the journey is heading north with first "dirt road" section as it is called here.
Thanks again and all the best to you all
Georges

Hi Georges
after being mentiond already personally, high time for me to join your blog!
As mentioned already before your departure, it's a great idea: both, the tractor trip ;-) and the fund raising project!
I'm supporting your project with 5c/km. Even after your impressing trip yesterday...Go and ruin me;-)
